Disney+ onthult releasedatum Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Fans van de geanimeerde extensie van de langlopende franchise, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, hebben gewacht op de terugkeer nadat Dave Filoni tijdens Comic-Con 2018 aankondigde dat het terug zou keren voor een zevende en laatste seizoen. Nu heeft Disney+ onthuld dat de serie op 17 februari in première gaat (via Star Wars News Net).

De serie is gemaakt door George Lucas en werd voor het eerst in 2008 uitgezonden, ontwikkeld door Dave Filoni en Henry Gilroy.

In 2014 verscheen op Netflix het zesde seizoen met de titel The Lost Missions en daarna ging de reeks door met andere uitingen, zoals comics en boeken, onder de titel The Clone Wars Legacy.  Maar het verhaal was nog niet voorbij. Filoni zei tijdens SDCC:

“Any opportunity to put the final pieces of the story in place is meaningful as a storyteller. I’m happy for the opportunity to define these things and the end of this part of the Clone War. It also makes me reflect on all the people that I got to work with over the years. It reinforces the things I learned from George. It reminds me of the important elements that go into making Star Wars. So, it’s nice on several levels, and I think for the crew that’s still here that worked on Clone Wars, they feel that, as well.”

Hoewel het momenteel onduidelijk is of het laatste seizoen als geheel zal verschijnen of in een wekelijks formaat zal worden uitgebracht, lijkt het niet het einde te zijn voor het geanimeerde Star Wars-universum, aangezien SWNN ook heeft onthuld dat een vervolgserie voor Rebels momenteel in ontwikkeling is.
