Game of Thrones schrijver George R.R. Martin wil film als afsluiter

Game of Thrones-bedenker George R.R. Martin vertelde tijdens het filmfestival in Neuchâtel dat hij de HBO televisieserie graag zou willen afsluiten met een Game of Thrones film. Hij vertelde:

“I would love that. If we go seven or eight seasons and then the show is still big enough that we can get the $200 million to finance a huge epic movie to end it…sure!”

Tevens vertelde hij dat er al discussies over gevoegd worden:

“But that doesn’t mean it has been approved. Some people like the idea. Other people don’t like the idea.”

Martin ziet het idee wel zitten, maar zei ook dat Game Of Thrones op dit moment “the biggest cast in television” heeft, en “[The] biggest budget in television.” Elke aflevering kost ongeveer $5 miljoen tot $6 miljoen. “But that’s still nothing to what Peter Jackson spends on a Lord Of The Rings movie or what any of these big, epic science fiction or fantasy movies have to spend. To go out with something big like that would be amazing.”

Tot slot vertelde Martin dat hij dan geen 3D-versie wil: “I don’t care about 3D,” the author stated. “It gives me a headache.”

Game of Thrones is een razend populaire fantasyserie op HBO die in 2011 van start ging. De serie heeft als showrunners David Benioff en D.B. Weiss. De reeks is gebaseerd op de A Song of Ice and Fire boeken van George R.R. Martin, die zelf ook een aantal seizoenen bij de serie betrokken was.
