George Lucas ook terug voor Indiana Jones 5

Harrison Ford en Steven Spielberg werken momenteel aan Indiana Jones 5 voor Lucasfilm. Vandaag kunnen we melden dat medebedenker George Lucas tevens terugkeert voor de vijfde film in de franchise. Spielberg zei:

“George is going to be an executive producer on it with me. Of course — I would never make an ‘Indiana Jones’ film without George Lucas. That would be insane.”

Verder vertelt Bob Iger dat deze vijfde film in de franchise absoluut niet de laatste moet worden. Krijgt de serie nog meer vervolgen en spin-offs, net als Star Wars? Hij zei:

“Not like Star Wars, but we hope… right now, we’re focused on a reboot, or a continuum and then a reboot of some sort. Well, we’ll bring him back, then we have to figure out what comes next. That’s what I mean. It’s not really a reboot, it’s a boot — a reboot. I don’t know. We [got] Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones in the film. But then what’s the direction? I’ve had discussions about what the direction is, [but] I don’t want to get into it. I don’t think it reaches the scale of the universe of Star Wars, but I see making more. It won’t be just a one-off.”

Dit antwoord is in overeenstemming met een eerdere reactie van Spielberg over Ford’s status aan het einde van de film:

“I think this one is straight down the pike for the fans. The one thing I will tell you is I’m not killing off Harrison [Ford] at the end of it.”

Betekent dit dat er een kans is dat Ford terug zou keren in een sequentie waarin hij een oudere Jones speelt, terwijl een ander acteur zijn jongere versie speelt? Dit werd al eerder gedaan in de serie The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

Franchise veteranen Kathleen Kennedy en Frank Marshall zullen Indiana Jones 5 produceren. John Williams keert terug voor de filmmuziek en scenarist David Koepp (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Jurassic Park) zal het script schrijven. De film staat gepland voor 19 juli 2019.
