Op 8 december brengt Universal Pictures Les Misérables The Staged Concert eenmalig uit in de bioscoop. Les Misérables is wereldwijd al door meer dan 120 miljoen mensen bezocht en een van de meest populaire musicals allertijden. Les Misérables The Staged Concert
Theaterproducent Cameron Mackintosh (The Phantom of the Opera, Mary Poppins, Miss Saigon, Cats, Hamilton) presenteert de legendarische musical van Boublil & Schönberg: Les Misérables – The Staged Concert. Gebaseerd op de roman van Victor Hugo. De muziek is van Claude-Michel Schönberg en de teksten van Herbert Kretzmer. De originele tekst is van Alain Boublil en Jean-Marc Natel.
Les Misérables is wereldwijd al door meer dan 120 miljoen mensen bezocht en een van de meest populaire musicals allertijden. Ter ere van het 35-jarige Londense West End jubileum heeft Cameron Mackintosh een spectaculair concert geproduceerd in het Gielgud Theatre dat 16 weken lang volledig is uitverkocht.
Deze spectaculaire enscenering van het legendarische concert, eerder te zien in Londen in de Royal Albert Hall en de O2 Arena, vond plaats van 10 augustus – 30 november 2019 in het Gielgud Theatre naast het huidige verblijf van Les Misérables in het Queen’s Theatre.
De sterrencast bestaat uit o.a. Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Matt Lucas en John Owen Jones. Bioscoopbezoekers kunnen nu een registratie van het musicalfenomeen ervaren op het grote doek. Met een cast en orkest van meer dan 65 personen en beroemde nummers waaronder I Dreamed A Dream, Bring Him Home, One Day More en On My Own is dit sensationele concert een absolute must-see voor musical fans.

Cameron Mackintosh zei:
“The success of Les Misérables continues to amaze me and break new ground. Despite the fact the show continues to play to 95% capacity we have been obliged to close the production at the Queen’s Theatre for 16 weeks this Autumn to do much needed work.This includes restoring the ceiling plasterwork and the auditorium, adding many more lavatories, as well as carrying out major renovations backstage, which haven’t been touched since the 1940s. The theatre was heavily damaged during World War II and has never been properly restored and brought up to modern standards.”
“Les Misérables is the only musical ever that has been equally successful on stage, film, in concert and in the classroom. Its spectacular staged concerts are legendary successes, just as popular as the stage show. I am thrilled that the plan to keep Les Misérables running in London with a staged concert version on Shaftesbury Avenue during the enforced closure period has attracted such a stellar cast, with Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, Carrie Hope Fletcher, John Owen Jones, Matt Lucas and Katy Secombe, who all have a very close personal connection to the history of the show. Of course I am a bit miserable that Michael, the gorgeous young actor that created the student Marius in the original production, is now for the first time old enough to play the implacable inspector Javert, an amazing match for Alfie’s career defining portrayal of Jean Valjean.”

Les Misérables The Staged Concert zal begin 2020 op DVD en blu ray verschijnen.
Update: Universal Pictures heeft onlangs laten weten dat Les Miserables The Staged Concert op blu ray en DVD vertraagd is en een nieuwe releasedatum krijgt. De release, die gepland stond voor 6 april, is nu verplaatst naar 20 april.
