Matt Reeves over plot Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Op dit moment wordt er gewerkt aan het vervolg op 20th Century Fox‘ Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Regisseur Matt Reeves heeft in een interview wat licht geworpen op de sequel, met Andy Serkis in de hoofdrol. In Dawn of the Planet of the Apes zien we zien hoe Caeser een leider wordt en begint het verhaal dicht bij het einde van de eerste film. Reeves vertelde:

“Where the first movie ends on the precipice of a major shift about to happen in the world, I wanted to come into that story. It’s definitely a bigger ape world, but it still centered on Andy Serkis as Caesar, it’s his POV….I wanted to make sure that the emotional life of Caesar was the way the story carried forward. You have to make Caesar’s movie, you have to think about what matters to him the most.”

Hij vervolgt:

“We’ll see how Caesar becomes this leader. The apes story is a through-the-looking-glass way of looking at what we are. By what’s going on in the internal lives of the apes we are exploring ourselves, our impulses, our society. So much is roiling inside [him]. He has a rational side separate from the apes – they’re all instinct.”

Een groeiende groep van genetisch geëvolueerde apen onder leiding van Caesar wordt bedreigd door een aantal menselijke overlevenden van een verwoestend virus dat een decennium eerder is uitgebroken. Ze bereiken een broos vredesbestand, maar dat blijkt maar van korte duur te zijn. Beide kanten staan op de rand van een oorlog die zal bepalen wie de dominante soort op Aarde zal worden.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes wordt geregisseerd door Matt Reeves. Het scenario is geschreven door Mark Bomback, Rick Jaffa en Amanda Silver. In de hoofdrollen zien we Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Gary Oldman, Kirk Acevedo, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Judy Greer. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes draait vanaf  17 juli 2014 in de Nederlandse bioscoop.
