MTV blaast Celebrity Deathmatch nieuw leven in met Ice Cube

“Let’s get it on!” MTV Studios blaast de stop-motion animatieserie Celebrity Deathmatch met een hoofdrol voor Ice Cube en als uitvoerend producent. Dit meldt Variety.

Celebrity Deathmatch werd oorspronkelijk uitgezonden tussen 1998-2001 op MTV. De bloederige animatieserie bevatte parodieën van verschillende beroemdheden terwijl ze zich bezighielden met wrede worstelwedstrijden waarbij de eerste die stierf de verliezer was. De originele serie hoorde de stemmen van Mills Lane, Stone Cold Steve Austin en Debbie Matenopoulous. De serie keerde voor twee seizoenen terug in 2006 en 2007.

Ice Cube vertelde:

“Happy to once again be working with Viacom and MTV on a fan favorite like Celebrity Deathmatch and to continue our success together.”

Chris McCarthy, president van MTV, VH1 en CMT, voegde toe:

“We’re excited to grow our partnership with Ice Cube and Cube Vision to reimagine this fan favorite. Deathmatch was the meme before memes, remains a hot topic on social media and will be a smart, funny way to tackle the over-the-top rhetoric of today’s pop culture where it belongs – in the wrestling ring.”

Eric Fogel, maker van de reeks, zal naast Cube, Jeff Kwatinetz van Cube Vision en uitvoerend producent Ben Hurwitz produceren.
