Regisseursduo Star Wars spin-off Han Solo stapt op

Regisseurs Phil Lord en Chris Miller zijn niet langer betrokken bij de Star Wars-film over het personage Han Solo. Dat maakte Lucasfilm bekend. Welke regisseur het duo Lord en Miller zal vervangen is nog niet bekend. Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm zei in een post op StarWars.com:

“Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon.

Lord en Miller voegden toe:

“Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew.”

Volgens de website The Hollywood Reporter:

“Sources say that the style and vision of Lord and Miller clashed with Lawrence Kasdan, the legendary screenwriter behind the classics Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark and who also wrote, with his son, Jon Kasdan, the script for the Han Solo standalone set (for now) to be released in 2018.” 

In de Han Solo spin-off speelt Alden Ehrenreich de rol van de ruimtesmokkelaar Han Solo. Daarnaast zijn er rollen voor Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian), Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Joonas Suotamo, Emilia Clarke en Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Het scenario is afkomstig van Lawrence Kasdan en Jon Kasdan. In de film zien we hoe Han Solo de smokkelaar werd die we leerden kennen in A New Hope. Ook zien we Chewbacca in de film en leren we mogelijk hoe de Wookie bevriend is geraakt met Han.

Han Solo: A Star Wars Story verschijnt op 25 mei 2018.
