The Batman krijgt releasedatum in 2021

Na jaren van ontwikkeling, heeft The Batman eindelijk een releasedatum. Deadline meldt dat Warner Bros. de Batman-film van Matt Reeves in de zomer van 2021 in de bioscoop moet verschijnen. De officiële datum is 25 juni 2021.

Nu de film een ​​datum heeft, meldt Deadline tevens dat de zoektocht naar een nieuwe Batman gestart is. Het script van Reeves zou zich richten op een jongere Batman /Bruce Wayne; wat de betrokkenheid van Ben Affleck zou uitsluiten. Over het vertrek van Affleck wordt al jaren gesproken. Oorspronkelijk was Affleck van plan om de hoofdrol te spelen in een Batman-solo-film, en deze ook te regisseren. Affleck is echter in 2017 afgetreden als regisseur.

Reeves trad toe tot het project als regisseur kort na het besluit van Affleck in 2017. Eerder deze week deelde Reeves enkele details over de film terwijl hij sprak met The Hollywood Reporter. Reeves vertelde:

“It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. [The narrative is] very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”
