Chloe Grace Moretz (Let Me In) en Jack O’Connell (Unbroken) zullen de rollen spelen van Bonnie en Clyde in de  dramafilm Love is a Gun. Dit meldt The Hollywood Reporter.

De film is gebaseerd op Jeff Guinn’sGo Down Together: The True, Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde. Het scenario is geschreven door Sheldon Turner (Up In the Air) en wordt omschreven als, “thrilling, gritty and emotional story of two of history’s most famous lovers, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow.”

De film wordt geregisseerd door Kike Maillo, wie eerder de film Toro regisseerde.

Het productieteam zei in een gezamelijk statement:

“We are excited to reintroduce the iconic story of Bonnie and Clyde. Their story remains ubiquitous in popular culture across the globe, yet few in this generation know the details of their intimate love affair and the circumstances that led to their notorious crime spree that captured the imagination of the world in their time. Kike, Chloë and Jack are completely in sync about the character-driven approach we will be taking, and we feel lucky to have a creative team of this high caliber leading us forward.”

Alex Walton, executive vp international film sales and distribution bij Endeavor Content voegde toe:

“Kiké Maillo brings a modern and edgy take on the universal story of star-crossed lovers, which is renowned around the world, and Chloë and Jack’s casting bring an authenticity to this tragic love story.”

Een aantal films hebben het verhaal van Bonnie and Clyde al geadapteerd, waarvan de bekendste de klassieker is uit 1967 met Faye Dunaway en Warren Betty.
