Disney-films blijven in Nederland langer op Netflix

Eerder deze week heeft The Walt Disney Company aangekondigd dat het in 2019 stopt met het aanbieden van nieuwe films op Netflix. Disney zou een eigen streamingdienst gaan beginnen. Het bericht heeft veel stof doen opwaaien, maar nu is duidelijk dat de gevolgen komende jaren beperkt blijven voor Netflix Nederland. Netflix liet weten dat de Disney-films nog minstens tot eind 2019 te zien zijn op de Nederlandse Netflix-accounts:

“Our deals with Disney OUTSIDE the US remain exactly as is​ – ​it doesn’t have any impact on ​all Disney movies we may have under separate deals in those markets.​ The statement ​Disney made only impacts the US and only the pay one output deal for theatrical films. US Netflix members will have access to Disney films on the service through the end of 2019, including all new films that are shown theatrically through the end of 2018. We continue to do business with the Walt Disney Company on many fronts, including our ongoing relationship with Marvel TV.”

Walt Disney gaat zich eerst volledig richten op de Amerikaanse markt, om vervolgens hun streamingdienst wereldwijd uit te rollen. In Nederland zijn er op dit moment ongeveer 85 Walt Disney films en series te vinden op Netflix. Daarnaast kun je ook kijken naar Pixar-films en een aantal Marvel Studios-titels.
