Eddie Redmayne krijgt hoofdrol in Harry Potter spin-off

Acteur Eddie Redmayne is gecast in de Warner Bros. Pictures’ Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Dit liet Greg Silverman, President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production van Warner Bros. Pictures, weten. Hij zei:

“Eddie Redmayne has emerged as one of today’s most extraordinarily talented and acclaimed actors. We are thrilled to welcome him into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where we know he will deliver a remarkable performance as Newt Scamander, the central character in ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” 

Redmayne gaat het door Harry Potter schrijfster J.K. Rowling bedachte personage Newt Scamander spelen. Scamander is een reiziger, die de wereld afging op zoek naar magische wezens. Dit leidde uiteindelijk tot het Zweinstein schoolboek Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Het verhaal speelt zich zeventig jaar eerder af dan de Harry Potter-boeken. Rowling schrijft het script voor de film en de regie is in handen van David Yates, die ook de laatste vier Harry Potter-films regisseerde. Ook Yates is blij met Redmayne:

“Eddie is a fearless actor, brimming with invention, wit and humanity. I couldn’t be more excited about the prospect of working with him as we start this new adventure in J.K. Rowling’s wonderful world, and I know she feels the same way.”

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them zal 18 november 2016 in 3D en IMAX uitkomen.
