Museum boos om verwoeste gitaar in The Hateful Eight

Tarantino en de crew achter zijn nieuwste film The Hateful Eight liggen onder vuur. In de film speelt het personage van Jennifer Jason Leigh een liedje op een gitaar. Dit met de bedoeling om John Ruth (gespeeld door Kurt Russel) te beledigen. Dit lukt, aangezien hij de gitaar afpakt en kapot slaat. Russel was echter niet op de hoogte van de waarde die het instrument had.

De gitaar kwam namelijk van het bedrijf C.F. Martin, een bekend merk gitaarbouwers en was 145 jaar oud. Dick Boak (directeur bij het Martin Guitar Museum) zei het volgende:

“We were informed that it was an accident on set, We assumed that a scaffolding or something fell on it. We understand that things happen, but at the same time we can’t take this lightly. All this about the guitar being smashed being written into the script and that somebody just didn’t tell the actor, this is all new information to us. We didn’t know anything about the script or Kurt Russell not being told that it was a priceless, irreplaceable artifact from the Martin Museum.”

Aldus Boak. Hij gaf ook aan dat het museum dankzij dit incident geen gitaren meer uitleent:

“As a result of the incident, the company will no longer loan guitars to movies under any circumstances,”

“We want to make sure that people know that the incident was very distressing to us, ”We can’t believe that it happened. I don’t think anything can really remedy this. We’ve been remunerated for the insurance value, but it’s not about the money. It’s about the preservation of American musical history and heritage.”

The Hateful Eight speelt zich af in het wilde westen en toont een groepje premiejagers die zullen moeten schuilen voor een sneeuwstorm. Dat doen ze in een garenwinkeltje waar ze nog vier andere mannen ontmoeten. De ego’s van de verschillende premiejagers botsen uiteraard al snel, wat culmineert in een bloede stand-off.
