Will Smith’s blauwe Genie in Aladdin | De beste reacties

Vandaag werd Will Smith‘s Genie uit de live-action Aladdin onthuld in al zijn (blauwe} glorie en het is niet verwonderlijk dat het internet helemaal los gaat. Sinds de aankondiging dat Smith de rol zou gaan spelen van het iconische magische personage, is er veel discussie geweest over regisseur Guy Ritchie‘s Aladdin. Fans vonden bijvoorbeeld dat Smith een te herkenbare acteur is in een cast die grotendeels bestaat uit onbekenden. Daarnaast werd er verwacht dat de acteur niet in staat is om de prestaties van wijlen Robin Williams te evenaren.

Eerder verschenen de eerste foto’s van de live-action remake, waarop we Smith zagen als Genie. Doordat hij echter niet blauw was en menselijke vorm had, waren fans verward en verontwaardigd. Nu we een eerste blik hebben op Smith als de volledig blauwe en zeer CGI-achtige Geest in Aladdin lijken veel fans teleurgesteld. De tv-spot met de blauwe Smith debuteerde tijdens de uitzending van de Grammy’s 2019. Naast Smith zijn er rollen voor Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, Marwan Kenzari, Navid Negahban, Nasim Pedrad, Billy Magnussen en Numan Acar. Aladdin wordt geregisseerd door Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) met een scenario door John August op basis van de animatiefilm uit 1992 en film verhalen uit “One Thousand and One Nights.”

Achtvoudig Academy Award-winnende componist Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid) levert de partituur, die nieuwe opnames bevat van de originele nummers geschreven door Menken en Oscar-winnende tekstschrijvers Howard Ashman (Little Shop of Horrors) en Tim Rice (The Lion King) en twee nieuwe nummers geschreven door Menken en Oscar en Tony Award-winnende songwriters Benj Pasek en Justin Paul (La La Land, Dear Evan Hansen).

Aladdin moet op 24 mei 2019 in de bioscoop verschijnen.
