Ben Affleck én Michael Keaton weer als Batman in The Flash film

Nadat in juni het bericht verscheen dat Michael Keaton in gesprek was om zijn rol als The Dark Knight in de aanstaande The Flash-film in de DC Extended Universe opnieuw te gaan spelen, meldt Vanity Fair dat zowel Keaton als Ben Affleck zullen verschijnen als Batman! Na aanvankelijk met pensioen te zijn gegaan vanwege zijn persoonlijke problemen en de tol die het van hem eiste, lijkt Affleck op een positiever pad te zijn en heeft hij ermee ingestemd terug te keren als Bruce Wayne naast Keaton in een “substantiële” rol, aldus regisseur Andy Muschietti. Hij zei:

“His Batman has a dichotomy that is very strong, which is his masculinity—because of the way he looks, and the imposing figure that he has, and his jawline —but he’s also very vulnerable. He knows how to deliver from the inside out, that vulnerability. He just needs a story that allows him to bring that contrast, that balance. [Affleck’s[ a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before. It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”

De DC Extended Universe solo Flash film is nu bijna vijf jaar in de maak en heeft een aantal schrijvers en regisseurs zien komen en gaan. The Flash zal op 1 juli 2022 in de bioscoop verschijnen.

Keaton nam voor het eerst de rol op zich in Tim Burton’s Batman uit 1989, die een kritische en commerciële hit bleek te zijn en de weg vrijmaakte voor de toekomstige films in het stripgenre. Hij keerde terug naar de rol in Batman Returns in 1992. Na het financiële succes en de aanhoudende positieve recensies begon de studio aan de ontwikkeling van een derde film, maar stopte nadat Burton werd vervangen door Joel Schumacher. Hij zou de regie nemen over Val Kilmer in Batman Forever en George Clooney in Batman & Robin.
