Bridgerton spin-off serie Queen Charlotte in de maak

Het Bridgerton universum breidt zich uit nu Netflix en Shondaland plannen hebben aangekondigd voor een geheel nieuwe Bridgerton serie gebaseerd op de oorsprong van Queen Charlotte. De serie zal het verhaal vertellen van het liefdesleven van een jonge koningin Charlotte, maar ook van de jonge Violet Bridgerton en Lady Danbury. Shonda Rhimes zal de serie schrijven en als uitvoerend producent dienen naast Betsy Beers en Tom Verica. Een officiële titel en meer details zullen op een later tijdstip worden onthuld. Netflix’s Bela Bajaria vertelde:

“Many viewers had never known the story of Queen Charlotte before Bridgerton brought her to the world, and I’m thrilled this new series will further expand her story and the world of Bridgerton. Shonda and her team are thoughtfully building out the Bridgerton universe so they can keep delivering for the fans with the same quality and style they love. And by planning and prepping all the upcoming seasons now, we also hope to keep up a pace that will keep even the most insatiable viewers totally fulfilled.”  

Bovendien verwelkomen Netflix en Shondaland met trots Jess Brownell (Bridgerton S1 & S2, Inventing Anna en Scandal) als showrunner voor seizoenen 3 en 4. Shonda Rhimes zei:

“As we continue to expand the world of Bridgerton, we now have the opportunity to devote even more of the Shondaland fold to the Bridgerton-verse. We’ve worked with Jess Brownell for over a decade and have long wanted to find the right project to place in her hands. When it came time to pass the baton, I knew this unique voice was vital to the future of the show.”

Betsy Beers voegde toe:

“Chris has been part of the Shondaland team for his entire entertainment career, and Shonda and I are very proud of all he contributed to help create this series for fans around the globe.”

Brownwell:

“It’s been incredibly rewarding working alongside Shonda, Betsy, and Chris Van Dusen on the first two seasons of Bridgerton. And now, as these beloved characters are entrusted to me, I cannot wait to lend my unique vision to the next two seasons. I feel so fortunate to have found a home at Shondaland and to have the support of Shonda and Betsy as I move forward into this new chapter.”

Showrunner Chris Van Dusen die seizoen 1 tot leven bracht, is momenteel in productie voor seizoen 2. Hij zei:

“With Bridgerton, I set out to make the period show I always wanted to see. I never could’ve anticipated how much the rest of the world also wanted to see it. I’m deeply proud of this remarkable cast and incredible crew, and I’m so grateful for the enduring support of Shonda, who I’ve worked alongside for 17 years. Shondaland is where I learned how to make TV, craft incredibly complex characters and how to tell stories. And while it’s been an incredible journey, I have my sights set on a few new stories to tell. To that end, I’ll continue as showrunner — writing and producing season two of Bridgerton — and look forward to seeing Jess continue the magic in seasons three and four. I’d also like to thank Julia Quinn and her passionate fans — for embracing my vision for bringing these beloved books to the screen. See you in Grosvenor Square!” 

Bridgerton Queen Charlotte serie

Bridgerton is geïnspireerd op de gelijknamige romans van Julia Quinn en volgt Daphne Bridgerton, de oudste dochter van de machtige Bridgerton-familie, terwijl ze haar debuut maakt op de competitieve huwelijksmarkt van Regency London. Het eerste seizoen is gebaseerd op het eerste boek uit schrijfster Julia Quinns serie, The Duke & I. De boekenreeks bestaat inmiddels uit negen boeken.

Seizoen 2 zal gebaseerd zijn op het tweede boek van Julia Quinns Bridgerton romans, getiteld The Viscount Who Loved Me, dat draait om het nastreven van een geschikt huwelijk voor de oudste broer Anthony, gespeeld door Jonathan Bailey. Het nieuwe seizoen introduceert een nieuwe vrouwelijke hoofdrol in de vorm van Simone Ashley als Kate Sharma. Ze krijgt ook gezelschap van nieuwe personages, waaronder Shelley Conn (Liar) als Edwina Sharma, Calam Lynch (Benediction) als Theo Sharpe, Charithra Chandran (Alex Rider) als Edwina Sharma en Rupert Young (The Secret Garden) die Jack zal spelen.

Bridgerton heeft rollen voor Phoebe Dynevor, Golda Rosheuvel, Jonathan Bailey, Luke Newton, Luke Thompson, Claudia Jessie, Nicola Coughlan, Ruby Barker, Sabrina Bartlett, Ruth Gemmell, Adjoa Andoh, Polly Walker, Bessie Carter, Harriet Cains en Julie Andrews als de stem van Lady Whistledown.

In Bridgerton maken we kennis met Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), de oudste dochter van de machtige en rijke Bridgerton-familie. Wanneer ze haar debuut maakt op de competitieve huwelijksmarkt van Regency London, lijken haar vooruitzichten hoopvol. Haar grote droom is om in de voetsporen van haar ouders te treden en haar ware liefde te vinden. Het tij lijkt echter te keren wanneer haar oudere broer potentiële kandidaten begint uit te sluiten en een high society roddelblad, geschreven door de mysterieuze Lady Whitledown, zich negatief uitlaat over Daphne. Wanneer de rebelse, eeuwige vrijgezel Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) op het toneel verschijnt, wordt Daphne’s zoektocht naar de ware liefde er niet makkelijker op. Desondanks dat ze allebei volhouden niets in de ander te zien, is hun aantrekkingskracht ongekend en vliegen de vonken ervan af. Ze raken verwikkeld in een innerlijk gevecht waarbij ze moeten kiezen tussen wat ze echt willen en wat juist is om te doen, terwijl ze proberen te voldoen aan de verwachtingen van het aristocratische high society van Regency London.
