Clerks 3 officieel aangekondigd

Lionsgate heeft vandaag aangekondigd dat de studio de rechten heeft gekocht voor Clerks 3, het nieuwste vervolg op Kevin Smith‘s indie-klassieker Clerks. De opnames van de threequel zullen volgende maand van start gaan.

Smith, die het script schreef en opnieuw achter de camera stapt om te regisseren, heeft ervoor gezorgd dat alle belangrijke rollen opnieuw zullen worden gespeeld door de bekende cast. Jeff Anderson en Brian O’Halloran keren beide terug als respectievelijk Randal en Dante. Natuurlijk komt Jay Mewes terug als Jay, terwijl Smith terugkeert als Silent Bob. Ook zien we Rosario Dawson terug als Becky.

In Clerks III vraagt ​​Randal, na een zware hartaanval, Dante, Elias, Jay en Silent Bob om een ​​film te maken die zijn leven vereeuwigt in de supermarkt waar het allemaal mee begon. De film wordt geproduceerd door Liz Destro en Jordan Monsanto. Smith vertelt over zijn terugkeer naar de franchise:

To go far is to return.’ Thanks to Lionsgate, we get to return to where it all started with almost the whole cast that started it all! And for the first time since the first time we ever made a movie in 1993, we’re shooting the entire flick on location in New Jersey, as an ode to both the enduring allure of cinema and the resourcefulness and lunacy of its storytellers. Years ago, Dante and Randal made me a filmmaker – so now it’s time I return the favor.”

“The Clerks movies are audience favorites and many of Kevin’s films like Dogma, Red State, and the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot are a beloved part of our library that continues to delight Kevin’s devoted fans. We’re thrilled to be presenting the next chapter in the Clerks saga to moviegoers worldwide.”

Smith’s filmische canon in het Clerks universum omvat de originele film uit 1994; Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back uit 2001; 2006 Clerks II; en Jay and Silent Bob Reboot uit 2019.
