Dave Bautista stopt met Drax na Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Army of the Dead acteur Dave Bautista laat weten dat hij de rol van Drax nog eenmaal zal spelen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Daarna houdt zijn contract op en is hij klaar met de rol. De acteur zei in een interview met Digital Spy:

“There were talks for a while about a Drax and Mantis film. It was really because it was James Gunn’s idea. He really wanted to do a Drax and Mantis film. He laid it out to me. I thought it was such a brilliant idea, but I haven’t heard any follow-up from the studio. I don’t think they’re very interested, or it doesn’t fit into the way they have things mapped out. But other than that, no. I mean, as far as my obligations, I’ve got Guardians 3, and that’s probably going to be the end of Drax.”

Nadat dit verhaal door fans werd opgepikt, verduidelijkte Bautisa:

“Drax isn’t going anywhere. He just won’t be played by this dude! By the time [Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3] comes out I’ll be 54 years old for gods sake! Face screaming in fear I’m expecting everything to start sagging any second now.”

Regisseur James Gunn zei:

“There’s no Drax for me without you, buddy! You ARE the MCU’s Drax the Destroyer and, as far as I’m concerned, could never be replaced. And you have the right to do whatever you want with your acting choices!” 

Dave Bautista stopt met Drax 

James Gunn, die de eerste twee films schreef en regisseerde, zou oorspronkelijk terugkeren om Vol. 3 te regisseren, maar na het opduiken van controversiële tweets vanaf het begin van zijn carrière, verbrak Disney de banden met de regisseur. De productie werd uitgesteld totdat de studio een A-lijst filmmaker vond om hem te vervangen. Na maanden van steun van fans en de hele cast van de films en discussies achter de schermen tussen Disney en Gunn, werd hij weer aangenomen om het derde deel te schrijven en te regisseren.

De eerste Guardians of the Galaxy was de verrassingshit van de tweede fase in het Marvel Cinematic Universe, met een brutowinst van bijna $775 miljoen aan de kassa en veel lovende kritieken. De tweede film kwam drie jaar later in de bioscopen en bleek even succes te zijn als zijn voorganger, met een brutowinst van meer dan $800 miljoen aan de kassa.

Het ruimtevaartteam was voor het laatst te zien in Avengers: Endgame en zal terugkeren naar het grote scherm voor hun volgende solofilm in 2023, voorafgegaan door de Holiday Special in december 2022.
