Game of Thrones: het grootste gevecht ooit in Westeros

Het grootste gevecht ooit in Westeros vindt aankomende zondag plaats in HBO’s Game of Thrones. We hebben hieronder een aantal details over de ‘Battle of the Bastards’. De negende aflevering duurt 60 minuten en is geregisseerd door Miguel Sapochnik. Hij zei:

“Every battle on Thrones is unique. I think that’s why [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] keep doing them. In the case of ‘Battle of the Bastards’ – or ‘BOB’ as we affectionately called it in production – David and Dan wanted to do a thing of spectacle, a strategic pitchfield battle they hadn’t had the resources to do back in season 1 or 2. I was particularly interested in depicting both the horror of war and the role of luck in battle.”

Om alles mogelijk te maken vonden er 25 dagen opnames plaats, met 500 figuranten, 600 crewleden en 70 paarden. Showrunner David Benioff zei:

“Miguel did such a fantastic job with ‘Hardhome’ last season, we thought we should bring him back, this time with horses. Some of the shots he’s pulled off are some of the best on the show.”

Dan Weiss voegde toe:

“Miguel’s really outdone himself. Fully fleshed out medieval battles require a tremendous amount of resources and choreography to get them right. It feels like we’re doing something fresh that you don’t see on TV and movies very often.”

Aflevering 9 heeft een speelduur van 60 minuten en de titel Battle of the Bastards is een referentie aan het gevecht tussen Ramsey Bolton en Jon Snow’s legers. De negende aflevering wordt op 19 juni uitgezonden.

De bedenkers van de serie David Benioff en D.B. Weiss keren terug als uitvoerend producenten en showrunners voor seizoen 6. Het zesde seizoen bestaat net als de eerste vijf seizoenen uit 10 afleveringen en is waarschijnlijk gebaseerd op een klein deel van het vijfde boek uit de A Song of Ice and Fire serie van George R.R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons en voor het grootste deel op het tot nu toe nog ongepubliceerde zesde boek The Winds of Winter.
