Godfather of Harlem seizoen 3 aangekondigd!

Zender EPIX heeft Godfather of Harlem seizoen 3 aangekondigd. De tweede seizoensfinale van de serie verscheen in augustus. Het derde seizoen zal tien afleveringen krijgen en ergens in 2022 van start gaan. Seizoen 1 van Godfather of Harlem is in Nederland te zien bij Disney Plus. Daarnaast kun je de eerste en tweede seizoenen streamen bij Ziggo.

In de misdaadserie zien we Oscar-winnaar Forest Whitaker als Bumpy Johnson, een beruchte gangster uit New York. Begin jaren zestig keert hij na een lange gevangenisstraf terug naar Harlem, waar inmiddels een nieuwe misdaadfamilie aan de macht is.

Michael Wright, president van Epix, vertelde:

Godfather for Harlem vertelt het verhaal van criminele baas Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker), die in de vroege jaren 1960 na 10 jaar gevangenisstraf terugkeerde om de wijk terug te vinden waar hij ooit heerste. Deze is nu in puin en terwijl de straten worden bestuurd door de Italiaanse menigte, neemt Bumpy het op tegen de Genovese misdaadfamilie om de controle terug te krijgen. Tijdens de brutale strijd vormt hij een alliantie met radicale predikant Malcolm X.

Naast Forest Whitaker (die Bumpy Johnson speelt) zien we ook Antoinette Crowe-Legacy als Elise, Ilfenesh Hadera als Mayme Johnsom, Vincent D’Onofrio als Vincent Giganter, Nigel Thatch als Malcolm X, Giancarlo Esposito als Adam Clayton Powell en Rafi Gavron als Ernie Nunzi.

Godfather of Harlem ging op 29 september 2019 in première op Epix. De serie is een prequel op de film American Gangster uit 2007. Whitaker is uitvoerend producent naast zijn Significant Productions banner Nina Yang Bongiovi, James Acheson en Markuann Smith samen met Chris Brancato (Narcos) en Paul Eckstein, die ook dienen als schrijvers voor het ABC Signature Studios-project.
