Komt er een Obi-Wan Kenobi seizoen 2? De serie verscheen 27 mei 2022 exclusief op Disney Plus en schreef geschiedenis toen de première in het eerste weekend kijkersrecords brak. Gezien de jaren van anticipatie en bijval voor Ewan McGregor‘s rol als Obi-Wan, vragen fans natuurlijk al om meer. Blijkbaar vinden er ook gesprekken plaats bij Lucasfilm en Disney. Volgens een gerucht van de site Making Star Wars is er mogelijk een nieuw seizoen van de hitserie in de maak. De site stelt ook dat het einde van Obi-Wan Kenobi veranderd werd, zodat een tweede seizoen een mogelijkheid is.

Het goede nieuws is dat zowat elke grote speler die betrokken is bij de serie graag terug wil keren voor meer, inclusief McGregor zelf. Hij zei tegenover Entertainment Weekly:

“It was made as a one-off limited series. And in a way, it does do what I wanted it to do in terms of bridging a story between 3 and 4 and bringing me closer to Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan in A New Hope. And so, for sure, that’s true. Yeah, I would like to make another one.”

McGregor herhaalde dit in gesprek met RadioTimes:

“I hope it’s not the last time I play him. I hope I do it again. I’d like to do it again.” He commented: “I mean I had such a great time doing this, I’m sure we can think of a few more stories before I turn into Alec Guinness. Don’t you think?”

Lucasfilm-president Kathleen Kennedy staat ook open voor meer, zolang er maar een goed verhaal te vertellen is:

“Mainly because everybody came together and had such an incredible time. Ewan had an incredible time. Hayden had an incredible time. So certainly from that point of view, everybody involved would love to see this not end. But we have to really spend our time asking the question: Why would we do it? If we were to decide to do anything more with the Obi-Wan character, we’d have to really answer the question why?”

Hoofdschrijver Joby Harold is iets terughoudender:

“Beyond being asked about it constantly, I’ve just been thinking about this for so long as a close-ended story that my mind is so focused on this as a limited [series], that I haven’t thought beyond it. But he’s a great character, they’re all amazing characters.”

Regisseur Deborah Chow voegde toe:

“I mean, there are of course more stories that you could tell. There’s obviously another 10 years before we get to A New Hope and with a character like Obi-Wan Kenobi, I think even just watching him ride across the sand sometimes is interesting. So, who knows? It’s hard to say right now, but it was not the intention.”

Hayden Christensen had soortgelijke gedachten:

“Well, it was definitely conceived as a standalone story. But I would love to continue with this character. You know, I think there’s certainly more there to explore and I would be so excited to get to do so.”

De Darth Vader-acteur heeft ook al gezegd dat hij geïnteresseerd zou zijn in zijn eigen spin-off:

“Absolutely, I think this is a character that resonates in our culture in a very profound way, and there’s certainly more there to explore. There are so many other stories that have been told in these other mediums, and I would love to get to continue my journey with him.” Christensen will reportedly be returning as Anakin for the upcoming Ahsoka show, though a recent report cast some doubt on his involvement.

Obi-Wan Kenobi seizoen 2

Obi-Wan Kenobi is de nieuwe Disney Plus serie met in de hoofdrol Ewan McGregor als de iconische Jedi Master. Het verhaal begint 10 jaar na de dramatische gebeurtenissen in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, waar Kenobi zijn grootste nederlaag leed. Het betekende de ondergang en corruptie van zijn beste vriend en Jedi-leerling Anakin Skywalker, die veranderde in de kwaadaardige Sith Lord Darth Vader.

Tijdens het bewind van het Galactische Rijk begint voormalig Jedi-meester Obi-Wan Kenobi aan een cruciale missie. Hij moet het opnemen tegen bondgenoten die vijanden zijn geworden en de toorn van het rijk onder ogen zien.

De serie markeert ook de terugkeer van Hayden Christensen in de rol van Darth Vader. Daarnaast zijn er rollen voor Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Joel Edgerton (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith), Bonnie Piesse (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith), Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Rupert Friend (Homeland), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), Sung Kang (F9: The Fast Saga), Simone Kessell en Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems).

De serie wordt geregisseerd door Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian). Chow, Amini en McGregor zullen optreden als Executive Producers naast Kathleen Kennedy, Tracey Seaward (The Queen) en John Swartz (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). Jason McGatlin, Lucasfilm’s Executive Vice President Production, zal optreden als co-producer.
