The CW onthult Javicia Leslie’s volledige Batwoman
The CW heeft twee nieuwe promofoto’s vrijgegeven voor Batwoman seizoen 2, met Javicia Leslie in een nieuw herontworpen pak voor haar eigen versie van de heldin. Uitvoerend producent Caroline Dries zei over de nieuwe look van Batwoman (via Deadline).
“Ryan’s journey starts from a place of ‘What can this Batsuit do for me?’ But it’s not long before she realizes the power of its symbol and what it can do for everyone else in Gotham City. As Ryan embraces everything that makes her special, she adjusts the suit to fit her physically and figuratively. This meant creating a new body design and new cowl that was undeniably a statement that screamed ‘powerful.’ Maya Mani sent me her drawings and I loved it. The wig was something we never perfected in season one, and Janice Workman crushed it with this new take. Javicia and I saw various prototypes of styles and red ombres, and at one point we were trading our own iPad-doodled versions. Janice translated that into what we are looking at now. When I see it, I smile. It makes me feel inspired.”
Maya Mani, de ontwerper van het nieuwe pak, zei:
“I was asked by Caroline Dries to design a Batsuit that was unique to the character of Ryan Wilder; as she is a highly skilled fighter, encapsulating her raw, athletic, and passionate nature was imperative. As Batwoman, Javicia Leslie not only brings a fresh perspective, but physical strength to the role. It was important for the new suit to define Javicia’s commanding presence while showcasing her athleticism and allowing her the freedom to express the physical nature of Batwoman, all while looking ultra-cool in the process!”
Na het plotselinge vertrek van Ruby Rose in mei, werd Javicia Leslie gecast als de nieuwe hoofdrolspeler van de serie en wordt ze de eerste zwarte actrice die Batwoman speelt in een live-action tv of filmproductie. Ze zal de rol spelen van Ryan Wilder, die wordt beschreven als “sympathiek, rommelig, een beetje maf en ongetemd” en dat ze “in niets lijkt op Kate Kane, de vrouw die het Batsuit vóór haar droeg.”
The CW’s Batwoman is geschreven door Caroline Dries op basis van de DC-personages. Gewapend met een passie voor sociale rechtvaardigheid en een flair voor haar gedachten, gaat Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) als Batwoman de straten van Gotham op, een lesbische en hoogopgeleide straatvechtster die klaar is om de criminele heropleving van de falende stad uit de weg te ruimen. Maar noem haar nog geen held. In een stad die wanhopig op zoek is naar een redder, moet Kate haar eigen demonen overwinnen voordat ze de roep om het Gotham-symbool van hoop te zijn kan omhelzen.
Rollen zijn er voor Dougray Scott als Kate’s vader Jacob Kane en Elizabeth Anweis zien we in de rol van Kate’s stiefmoeder Catherine Hamilton-Kane. Kate’s nemesis Alice wordt gespeeld door Rachel Skarsten. Camrus Johnson heeft ook een rol in de serie als Luke Fox, de zoon van de rechterhand van Bruce Wayne, Lucius Fox. Meagan Tandy speelt Sophie Moore, het liefje van Kate Kane uit hun tijd op de militaire academie. Nicole Kang speelt Kate’s stiefzus Mary Hamilton. Seizoen 2 bevat ook nieuwe castleden Shivani Ghai (Dominion) als Safiyah, Leah Gibson als The Whisper, Nathan Owens als Ocean en Alex Morf als Victor Zsasz.
De Batwoman serie is afkomstig van Berlanti Productions in samenwerking met Warner Bros. Television. Dries zal uitvoerend produceren naast Berlanti en Sarah Schechter. Voormalig president-directeur van DC Entertainment, Geoff Johns, is aangesteld als uitvoerend producnt via zijn nieuwe banner Mad Ghost Productions.
Seizoen 2 wordt nog steeds verwacht in januari 2021.
