Vijfde The Walking Dead spin-off Isle Of The Dead aangekondigd
AMC heeft Isle of The Dead aangekondigd, een spin-off van The Walking Dead met Lauren Cohan en Jeffrey Dean Morgan in de hoofdrol als Maggie en Negan.
Nog twee geliefde The Walking Dead personages krijgen hun eigen spin-off. De oude TWD-schrijver Eli Jorné zal als showrunner van het drama dienen. De serie staat onder toezicht van Scott M. Gimple, hoofd content van TWD Universe en zal in 2023 verschijnen. Isle of The Dead speelt zich af in Manhattan en volgt Negan en Maggie die een post-apocalyptisch New York City verkennen. Cohan en Morgan zullen ook optreden als executive producers.

Lauren Cohan verscheen in seizoen twee van The Walking Dead als een terugkerend, favoriet stripboekpersonage Maggie. Gesprekken voor een spin-off met de actrice zijn aan de gang sinds begin 2019, toen ze kort afscheid nam van de franchise na een maandenlange contractheronderhandeling. Ze keerde terug in een beperkte capaciteit voor seizoen negen voordat ze in seizoen 10 weer een regulier castlid werd. Morgan zei in een statement:
“I’m delighted that Negan and Maggie’s journey continues. It’s been such a ride walking in Negan’s shoes, I’m beyond excited to continue his journey in New York City with Lauren. Walkers in an urban setting has always been such a cool image, but 5th Avenue, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty? The greatest city in the world?? The backdrop is amazing, but it’s the story that Eli Jorné cooked up that is even better. Buckle up folks, Isle of the Dead is going to reinvent the TWD Universe. Huge thank you to Dan McDermott, Scott Gimple and AMC for having us back for more… we simply can’t wait.”
Jeffrey Dean Morgan maakte zijn entree in de finale van seizoen vijf als schurk Negan. Hij zei:

Isle of The Dead voegt zich bij The Walking Dead, dat momenteel bezig is met het uitzenden van deel 2 van het laatste seizoen. Andere spin-offs zijn de prequel Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, een geplande anthologiereeks in Tales of the Walking Dead en het titelloze Norman Reedus/Melissa McBride-drama van showrunner Angela Kang. Dan zijn er nog de lang in ontwikkeling zijnde trilogie van films met Andrew Lincoln die gaan over Rick Grimes, het geliefde personage dat de ster was van zowel de tv-serie als de stripboekfranchise.
