Westworld seizoen 2 pas in 2018

Zondag zond HBO de tiende en laatste aflevering uit van Westworld seizoen 1. We wisten al dat de goed ontvangen serie een tweede seizoen zou gaan krijgen, maar producent Jonathan Nolan heeft nu bevestigd dat deze pas in 2018 verschijnt. Tegenover The Hollywood Reporter zei Nolan over Westworld seizoen 2:

“Definitely not coming back until 2018. Look, we said to the network very early that this was a different kind of show, having gone through the experience of making the pilot. Game of Thrones is incredibly ambitious, and that was part of the reason we knew we wanted to make this show with HBO. Game of Thrones kind of has written the book on production value for television, and how to make something thaasons, which gives you a leg up. I still don’t know how they turn those seasons around in a year. It’s astonishing. But we knew for ourselves that going forward, the production is enormously challenging and ambitious, and so is the writing. So we said very early on that we wouldn’t be able to turn this around every year, and knowing full well that that’s been a time-honored tradition in television. But in film, my other life, on the Batman movies, the best we could do is turn another one around in three years. I really feel like we’re splitting the difference here.”

Westworld is gebaseerd op Michael Crichton’s gelijknamige film uit de jaren ’70. Het verhaal speelt zich af in een pretpark waar bezoekers zich in alle tijden kunnen wanen. Er zijn daar robots in plaats van echte acteurs. Maar als de robots in opstand gaan zijn de bezoekers in levensgevaar.

Hoofdrollen zijn er voor Anthony Hopkins, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Tessa Thompson, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Jimmi Simpson, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Simon Quarterman, Angela Sarafyan, Luke Hemsworth en Clifton Collins Jr. Jonathan Nolan en J.J. Abrams produceren de serie.
