Howard Shore in gesprek voor muziek The Lord of the Rings serie

Terwijl Amazon’s aankomende The Lord of the Rings serie afstand neemt van de traditie – het tweede seizoen van de serie zal Nieuw-Zeeland verruilen voor het VK – is een oude bekende ingeschakeld. Deadline meldt dat componist Howard Shore in gesprek is om de serie te voorzien van muziek.

Howard Shore schreef eerder de muziek voor alle films in de Middle-earth-saga, waaronder drie The Lord of the Rings-films en drie films in The Hobbit prequelreeks. Hij is drievoudig winnaar van de Academy Award, waarvan hij er twee won voor het scoren van de eerste en derde The Lord of the Rings-films. Hij won ook de Oscar voor Best Original Song voor “Into the West” uit The Return of the King. Meest recent componeerde hij de muziek voor Kornél Mundruczó’s Pieces of a Woman en Deepa Mehta’s Funny Boy.

Shore’s score voor The Lord of the Rings serie blijft een van de meest herkenbare filmmuziek allertijden.

Er heerst nog steeds een aura van mysterie rond dit The Lord of The Rings project. Eerder dit jaar onthulde TheOneRing.net wel een synopsis van de serie. die kun je hier lezen:

2 september 2022 zal de serie exclusief te zien zijn op Amazon Prime, en wel in 240 landen. Elke week zullen nieuwe afleveringen verschijnen.

De serie is gebaseerd op de iconische The Lord of the Rings boeken van J.R.R. Tolkien. De langverwachte serie speelt zich af in de Second Age. Dat plaatst ongeveer 3.000 jaar geschiedenis tussen de serie en het begin van The Lord of the Rings. Peter Jackson‘s Fellowship of the Rings speelde zich af aan het einde van de Second Age, toen de laatste alliantie van elven en mannen de strijdkrachten van Sauron confronteerde. Het Tweede Tijdperk besloeg bijna 3441 jaar en begon na de verbanning van Morgoth, de duistere heer voor Sauron. Er is in die tijd veel verhaalpotentieel, waaronder de opkomst van Sauron, de creatie van de Ene Ring en de opkomst van de Ringgeesten.
